Lesson Plan: Use of "I" in Sentences
**Grade Level:** Nursery 2 (Ages 4-5)
**Duration:** 30 minutes
**Objective:**
- Students will learn how to use the pronoun "I" in simple sentences.
- Students will be able to form sentences using "I" to talk about themselves.
**Materials Needed:**
- Flashcards with pictures and simple sentences (e.g., "I am happy," "I see a cat")
- Chart paper and markers
- Whiteboard and markers
- Picture books
- Worksheets with fill-in-the-blank sentences (e.g., "I see a ____," "I like ____")
- Stickers for rewards
**Introduction (5 minutes):**
1. Begin with a friendly greeting and a short song or rhyme related to the topic of "I" (e.g., "I am Special" song).
2. Introduce the concept of "I" as a pronoun that we use to talk about ourselves.
3. Write the word "I" on the whiteboard and have students repeat it after you.
**Direct Instruction (10 minutes):**
1. Use flashcards to show simple sentences that use "I". For example, show a picture of a happy face and the sentence "I am happy."
2. Read each sentence aloud and have the students repeat after you.
3. Explain how "I" is used in each sentence to talk about what they are doing or feeling.
**Guided Practice (10 minutes):**
1. Show a few more flashcards but this time leave the sentence parts blank after "I". For example, show a picture of a cat and say, "I see a ____."
2. Ask the students to guess what word goes in the blank. Help them fill in the blank and repeat the complete sentence together.
3. Encourage students to come up with their own sentences using "I" by showing different pictures (e.g., pictures of playing, eating, running).
**Independent Practice (5 minutes):**
1. Distribute worksheets with fill-in-the-blank sentences.
2. Encourage students to fill in the blanks with words that make sense. Circulate the room to provide assistance and encouragement.
3. Offer praise and stickers for completed worksheets.
**Closure (5 minutes):**
1. Gather the students in a circle and ask a few of them to share their sentences from the worksheet.
2. Recap the lesson by highlighting how we use "I" to talk about ourselves in sentences.
3. End with a short song or rhyme to reinforce the use of "I".
**Assessment:**
- Observe students during guided practice to see if they understand and correctly use "I" in sentences.
- Review completed worksheets to assess individual student comprehension.
- Listen to the sentences shared during closure to gauge understanding.
**Differentiation:**
- For students who need extra help, provide one-on-one assistance during independent practice.
- For advanced students, challenge them to create more complex sentences using "I".
**Post-Lesson Reflection:**
- Reflect on what worked well and what could be improved.
- Note which students may need additional support and tailor future lessons accordingly.
By the end of the lesson, students should have a basic understanding of how to use "I" in sentences to talk about themselves, paving the way for more advanced sentence formation in future lessons.
